In 1988 Liz Jarratt opened Our doors as a retail outlet for Walton & Co. Ltd, the wholesale household linen business which started life in 1785 in Castle Mills, Knaresborough. After the sale of the wholesale business in 1992 Liz kept the shop and continued to grow the retail business year on year until, in 2002 she retired and her son Will Jarratt took over.
He now manages it with a small but dedicated team of welcoming and talented staff whose one aim in life is to guide people through the sometimes scary business of creating the right atmosphere and style for their homes without imposing their own take on style or taste.
At the end of 2012 Waltons Mill Shop relocated from their Harrogate premises out to The Old Jam Factory on Leeming Lane in Boroughbridge. This major move, you might think, is a disaster! Not a bit of it. For some time the business which has grown in size and scale dramatically over the years has been run from the shop in Tower Street, Harrogate and the Warehouse in Fawcetts Yard behind St. Roberts Church.
The new Waltons Millshop, incorporating warehouse and office under the same roof, made a spectacular reappearance on January 3rd 2013 at The Old Jam Factory in Langthorpe, Boroughbridge. The light airy building which has been fully refurbished is light, charming and roomy and will offer a fabulous ‘consultation facility’ with soft seating, daily newspaper, tea and coffee on tap for attendant nonshoppers, not to mention the very popular ’toy box’ option for junior visitors. The new shop offers plenty of parking for customers and is easily located next to the Anchor Inn on the main A6256 road out of Boroughbridge travelling North towards Kirby Hill being easily accessible from the A1 and centrally located in Yorkshire and the North East.
